Outreach & Communications Specialist

 

Description:

REACH, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization serving North Texas communities in Dallas, Tarrant, Denton, and Collin Counties. The mission of REACH, Inc. is to empower people with disabilities to lead self-directed lives and to promote a barrier-free community through public education and advocacy. The organization is governed and staffed by a majority of people with disabilities who bring a wide range of knowledge and experience to their work in assisting consumers.  Each year, approximately 1,000 individuals participate in the programs and activities of REACH, Inc.  Services are financed through a combination of federal, state, local, and private funds.

 

The outreach & communication specialist is the leader and driver of organization-wide communications activities, including internal and external communication, relationship building and management, and brand management.

 

Responsibilities:

Outreach:  Cultivate and maintain relationships that position REACH as a resource in the community.  Act as a primary point of contact and representative for outreach opportunities and activities, i.e., hosting exhibit tables at events.  Create and disseminate communications resources for staff throughout the organization.  Develop, maintain, measure social media channels—working with staff throughout the organization to create content for social media.

 

Communications:  Lead brand management activities across the organization, including implementation of recent organizational rebranding (logo, communications, etc.).  Work with Executive Director and leadership team to develop boilerplate communications materials for a variety of audiences, including advocacy related communications (i.e., testimony, public comments, position statements, op-eds, etc.).  In collaboration with the team, support development and fund-raising activities.  Maintain/improve Word Press website, including content creation, website updates and analytics.

 

Required skills and/or experience:

  1. Communication: written, verbal, non-verbal communication skills (the ability to adapt a message to a specific audience).
  2. The ability to manage multiple workflows with frequent competing priorities, while delivering high quality and timely work product.
  3. Word Press, website management, plug-ins, and analytics.
  4. A basic understanding of website and communications accessibility (i.e., 508 compliance, accessible social media, etc.)
  5. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  6. Competence and management of brand standards.
  7. Understanding and experience with the disability community, including proficiency with person-first language and images and values that align with the Independent Living Movement.
  8. Driver’s license, good driving record, and access to reliable transportation.

This full-time role is an on-site position at the REACH Dallas location 8625 King George Dr.  Because our work is consumer focused, our team is available in the office during normal business hours.  The role is NOT eligible for hybrid or remote consideration.
