From the My Ride Dallas Coalition, The 2018 Annie Jones Driver Excellence Award nominations are open!
Courteous, respectful drivers make a difference. To recognize drivers who best exemplify our commitment to courteous and respectful service, My Ride Dallas presents the Annie Jones Driver Excellence Award.
This community-based award celebrates drivers who go above and beyond to make riders feel safe, comfortable and valued. It’s an opportunity for riders to nominate the drivers who make a difference in their lives.
Annie Jones has been a force to be reckoned with on transportation issues since 1984. Jones chained her wheelchair to a greyhound bus to protest the lack of support people with disabilities received from public transportation. At that time, neither greyhound buses nor DART buses were wheelchair accessible.
Thanks to the efforts of activists like Annie Jones, attention is being given to the transportation needs of older adults and people with disabilities. We take great pride in naming our most prestigious award in honor of her dedicated work.
Please share the attached nomination form with your clients, colleagues, and friends and encourage them to return it to me via email or mail. Riders can also nominate their drivers online here: http://myridedallas.org/blog/annie-jones-award/ Any driver in Dallas County can be nominated by their rider- they can be a public transit driver, driver at a nonprofit agency, a friend from church who volunteers to drive a senior to medical appointments, etc. Nomination forms are due by June 1, the winner will be presented with an award at the Summer My Ride Dallas Coalition Meeting, date TBD.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
