July 26th is often regarded as America’s second Independence Day for the estimated 56 million Americans with disabilities. Today many agencies and organizations around our state will be observing the anniversary of the ADA with local celebrations to raise awareness of the rights of Texans with disabilities and the many contributions they make to our state.
As of June 26, 2016, Suzy Rosen Singleton serves as the Chief of the Disability Rights Office of the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission. Since May 23, 2016 for a few weeks, she had served in an acting capacity. Since 2012, Singleton practiced as an attorney advisor with the CommissionÂ’s Disability Rights Office.

Waiver amendment to the Home and Community-based Services Program (HCS)
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is submitting to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) a request for an amendment of the Home and Community based-Services (HCS) waiver program, a waiver implemented under the authority of section 1915(c) of the Social Security Act. CMS has approved this waiver through August 31, 2018. The proposed effective date for the amendment is August 31, 2016, with no changes to cost neutrality.
